š How to Send Digital Scans From Sirona CEREC
Overview
Sirona CEREC scanners (Primescan, Omnicam, Bluecam) can export digital impression files that you can upload directly to CAE Dental. This guide walks you through how to export STL files from CEREC, how to package them correctly, and how to submit them with your case.
𦷠Supported CEREC Systems
CAE Dental accepts scans from all Sirona systems:
- CEREC Primescan
- CEREC Omnicam
- CEREC Bluecam
- CEREC AC / CEREC SW
- CEREC Connect (export workflow)
All systems can export STL, which is required for sending cases to CAE Dental.
š StepābyāStep: Exporting STL Files From CEREC
1. Complete Your Scan in CEREC
Scan:
- Upper arch
- Lower arch
- Bite registration
Make sure:
- No holes or missing anatomy
- Bite aligns correctly
- Scans are trimmed cleanly
2. Go to the āAdministrationā or āExportā Tab
Depending on your software version, this may appear as:
- Export
- File ā Export
- Administration ā Export Model
- Share ā Export
3. Choose āExport as STLā
Select:
- Model (STL)
- Export Model
- Export to Folder
CEREC will generate STL files for:
- Upper arch
- Lower arch
- Bite (if supported by your version)
4. Select the Files You Want to Export
Make sure you export:
- Upper jaw STL
- Lower jaw STL
- Bite STL (if available)
If your version does not export a bite STL, you can still upload the upper and lower scans ā CAE Dental will align them manually if the scans are clean.
5. Choose a Save Location
Save the files to:
- Desktop
- USB drive
- Network folder
- Cloud folder (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.)
Use simple, clean filenames such as:
Upper.stlLower.stlBite.stl
Avoid patient names in file names for PHI protection.
6. (Optional) Zip the Files
If you have multiple files or photos, create a ZIP folder.
Example ZIP contents:
- Upper.stl
- Lower.stl
- Bite.stl
- Photos (optional)
ZIP files upload faster and keep everything organized.

ā ļø Common Issues With CEREC Exports
Avoid delays by checking for:
- Missing bite scan
- Holes in the scan
- Untrimmed excess tissue
- Incorrect arch orientation
- STL files not included
- Patient names in file names (PHI)
š Tips for Best Results
- Always export STL, not proprietary CEREC formats
- Capture clean margins and full anatomy
- Use PLY only if your CEREC version supports it (most do not)
- Upload shade photos for anterior cases
- Keep file names simple and PHIāfree
