📘 How to Send Digital Scans From iTero (Labs)

Overview

iTero scanners (Element, Element 2, Element 5D, HDU) can export open‑format digital impression files that you can upload directly to CAE Dental. This guide explains how to export STL files from iTero, how to download them from MyiTero, and how to submit them with your case.

🦷 Supported iTero Systems

CAE Dental accepts scans from all iTero devices:

• iTero Element
• iTero Element 2
• iTero Element Flex
• iTero Element 5D / 5D Plus
• iTero HDU / older models

All systems can export STL files through the MyiTero portal.

📂 Step‑by‑Step: Exporting STL Files From iTero

1. Complete Your Scan on the iTero Scanner

Scan:

• Upper arch
• Lower arch
• Bite registration

Make sure:

• No holes or missing anatomy
• Bite aligns correctly
• Scans are trimmed cleanly

2. Submit the Case to MyiTero

Once the scan is complete:

• Tap “Send” or “Save”
• The scan uploads automatically to your MyiTero.com account

This is required before you can export STLs.

3. Log In to MyiTero.com

On your computer:

• Go to https://myitero.com
• Log in with your iTero account credentials

4. Locate Your Scan

Navigate to:

• My Scans
• Recent Scans
• Patients

Click the patient or scan you want to export.

5. Export the STL Files

Inside the scan details page:

1. Click “Export”
2. Choose “Export STL”
3. Select:
   • Upper STL
   • Lower STL
   • Bite STL (if available)
4. Click Download

iTero will generate a ZIP file containing all STL files.

6. Extract the ZIP File

Open the ZIP folder and confirm it contains:

• Upper.stl
• Lower.stl
• Bite.stl (if provided)

Rename files if needed to remove PHI.

📤 Uploading iTero Files to CAE Dental

1. Log In to Your Account

Go to caedental.com → My Account → New Order

2. Select Your Product Type

Choose:

• Crown
• Bridge
• Implant restoration
• Splint
• Denture
• Full‑arch
  …or any other service.

3. Upload Your STL Files

Use the upload fields to add:

• Upper STL
• Lower STL
• Bite STL
• Photos (optional but recommended for anterior cases)

4. Add Case Notes

Include:

• Shade
• Material
• Occlusion instructions
• Implant system + platform (if applicable)
• Aesthetic preferences

5. Submit the Case

Your case enters the design queue immediately.

⚠️ Common iTero Issues & Fixes

1. STL Export Button Missing

• Scan not fully uploaded → wait 1–2 minutes
• Case not finalized → complete the workflow
• MyiTero glitch → refresh the page

2. Bite STL Missing

• Some iTero versions don’t export bite STLs
• CAE Dental can align upper/lower manually if scans are clean

3. ZIP File Won’t Open

• Re‑download the export
• Try a different browser (Chrome recommended)

4. Files Too Large

• iTero exports high‑resolution STLs
• ZIP the files before uploading to CAE Dental
