📘 How to Send Digital Scans From a 3Shape® Lab Scanner

Overview

3Shape® Lab Scanners integrate seamlessly with CAE Dental Lab through 3Shape Communicate and the 3Shape Order Manager. Once CAE Dental is added as a connected design center, you can send cases directly for fast, efficient collaboration. This guide walks you through connecting your account, setting up the DME file, and transmitting orders.

🔗 Step 1: Access 3Shape Communicate

To begin:

  • Open a web browser
  • Visit us.3shapecommunicate.com
  • Log in with your 3Shape Communicate credentials

This portal manages your lab connections and case communication.

🤝 Step 2: Connect With CAE Dental Lab

Inside 3Shape Communicate:

Once approved, CAE Dental will appear as a connected partner.

📥 Step 3: Download the Required DME File

CAE Dental may provide a DME (Dental Manager Export) file for proper material and workflow configuration.

  • Download the DME file from the provided link or location
  • Import it into your 3Shape system if required for your workflow

This ensures accurate material settings and order compatibility.

📂 Step 4: Create, Scan, or Import an Order

In 3Shape Order Manager:

  • Create a new order,
    or
  • Scan/import an existing case

Fill out the case details as needed.

🏷 Step 5: Select CAE Dental Design Center

After the order is created or imported:

  • Open the External Lab dropdown
  • Select “CAE Dental Design Center”

This assigns the case to CAE Dental for design.

💾 Step 6: Save the Order

Once the lab is selected:

  • Click Save
  • Right‑click the order in the list to open the context menu

Saving ensures the case is ready for transmission.

📤 Step 7: Send the Case to CAE Dental

From the right‑click menu:

  • Select “Send to Design Center” or “3Shape Communicate->Send update to CAE Dental” depends on what version you have
  • Confirm the submission

Your case will be transmitted through 3Shape Communicate.

📬 Step 8: Receive Order Updates

You can monitor progress through:

  • 3Shape Communicate notifications
  • The case page inside the portal

Once file has been designed and received back, you will now be able to create/process the CAM files within your 3shape Dental Manager by either hitting F7 or right clicking on the order go to Advanced->Generate CAM output.
